Scheduling With a Random Day and Time

Sometime this week isn't a plan. Wednesday at 7 is. The Random Day and Time Picker spins both wheels at once so you get a specific slot instead of a general intention, and specificity is usually the only thing that was missing.

Why vague plans quietly die

A plan without a slot has nothing to collide with. It never conflicts with anything, never appears in a calendar, and never forces anyone to say no. So it survives indefinitely as an intention and never becomes an event.

Naming a slot changes that immediately. Wednesday at 7 either goes in the calendar or produces a real objection, and both outcomes are progress. The vague version produces neither.

Two wheels, drawn independently

The outer wheel holds days and the inner wheel holds hours. Both draw from the same cryptographic random source and neither influences the other, so there's no hidden pattern linking the day you get to the time you get.

That independence matters when you've trimmed the wheels. A weekday only wheel paired with an evenings only wheel produces exactly the range of slots you defined, with nothing sneaking in from outside it.

Trim both wheels first

The default is seven days by 24 hours, which is 168 possible slots and far too many of them are 3am on a Sunday. Almost all the value comes from cutting this down before the first spin.

• Workout slots: weekdays only, 6am to 8am, so every result is a session you'd genuinely do.
• Date nights: Friday and Saturday only, 6pm to 9pm.
• Accountability calls: weekdays only, plus the two or three hours you're reliably free.
• Deep work blocks: your actual working days, plus the hours you're sharpest rather than the ones that happen to be empty.
• Night shift check ins: the inverse window, running 10pm through 6am.

Using it with other people

Shared wheels are where this gets genuinely useful. Save your trimmed version, send the link, and both people are drawing from a window you've already agreed on.

That agreement is the actual negotiation, and it happens once rather than every week. After that, the weekly question of when is answered by a spin instead of a thread.

Agree the window once, then let a spin handle the weekly question. It's a small piece of forced commitment, and for plans that keep sliding it's usually enough.
